This class is targeted for beginning or novice tiers or anyone who wants to work on foundational tying skills working with various materials and hook designs. Participants will learn to tie 3 - 4 different patterns each session as well as receive instructions on how to use all of the basic tying tools. Skills and materials used will build from week to week. Over the course of the 5 weeks we will tie midges, sowbugs, scuds, caddis nymphs, hairs ears, frenchies, worms, and more. And while these patterns are commonly used for trout fishing, most of these patterns can also be fished for our local warm water panfish, and the skills developed can be used to branch off into other patterns.
Mid-South Fly Fishers will furnish materials for flies tied each session. Participants are encouraged to bring your own fly tying tools, including vise, scissors, whip finisher, bodkin, etc. if you have them. There will be some tools available for participants that do not have their own gear.
Classes start May 11 at Orvis Memphis scheduled 6 - 8 pm and will be scheduled weekly on Monday evenings — May 11, May 18, June 1, June 8, and June 15. Note we will not meet May 25 on Memorial Day.
Cost is $40 for the scheduled 5 week of sessions. Class size is limited to 10 participants. Classes will be led by Johnny Jackson.
